A tribute to Monte Zucker

Monte Zucker passed away today.  Although this is a new forum and this article may not be seen by many people for perhaps several months, I would be remiss if I did not mention Monte and imbed his name in our new forum.

For those who knew or new of Monte, his photography and teachings, you will not be surprised at this writing.  For newcomers on the scene let me explain that no forum on portraiture and especially wedding photography would be incomplete without mention of Monte and his place in our industry.  In his passing, we have lost not only a grand master, consummate photographer, teacher and mentor but also a gentleman of the highest order, a humanist and a kind and generous individual possessing endless compassion and enthusiasm for his art.

He died of pancreatic cancer after a strong battle with the disease.  Even in the face of pain, serious illness and death he never lost his concern for his many students and therefore arranged to form a foundation to further photographic education for many generations of new photographers to come.  He faced his fate with great dignity, valor and his inimitable grace.  When I can accept his passing, I will write more about Monte and include some of his philosophy in my written articles.  At this time I would like to dedicate all of my articles in honor of Monte and what he has instilled in me.

Monte- God’s speed- farewell my friend and thank you for teaching me.  You are forever in my heart and mind.
