baby mallards

My goofball husband purchased some baby mallards...from murry mcmurray...a mail order catalog for chickens & ducks...etc.

These things are almost 2 wks old here...so stinkin' cute.

Not sure...he was told if he built a pond, they winter down south then come back. We don't have a pond so hmmm. He said maybe some babies for next spring. Otherwise, perhaps they'll just go free? We're in the country on 10 acres so we don't have neighbors complaining...actually the neighbors had some white ducks already this year!

who's going to teach them how to fly?

I didn't know you could buy protected birds... [shrug]

(any bird that migrates, is protected. That covers almost all water birds)

Check out the murray mc murray catalog. Mallards aren't endangered...just can't hunt them unless they're in season. They fly instinctivally...no one needs to teach them. didn't mean to cause a discussion regarding this. Just they're a ton of fun...preening, bathing...etc.

I said protected. not endangered. They are cool birds, I will check that catalog.

Cute picture.  They look like fun.

For part of my childhood I lived in a really small town, my parents got all rural on us and bought two ducks.  They were cute when they were little but they grow up to make aweful noises and they seem to like to chase small children...

Anyway, good luck Smiley

I'll take ducks over peacocks and guineas any day. Nothing but noise machines.

No one critiqued the photo. It seems sort of blah...not sure what.

It does seem to be out of focused and overexposed. But they're still cute. Grin

You're right.  We got so lost in the cute little ducks that it looks like we forgot it was a picture Cheesy Grin

The depth of field is a little too narrow for me. I like that the ducks in the back blur out a little, but there don't seem to be enough of them in focus.  It seems like the two in the middle looking at each other should been the focus of attention instead of the one in front.

The color also is a little dull.  Maybe bump the sats and see if that helps.

I loved the product! Yhe birds were healthy, and the meat was great!

What I thought. They're selling really fresh meat.

Guess that was kinda the point for all this.
I think the DOF may be a bit shallow and the colors are washed out. Hope you don't mind but I tweaked it a bit.
Set black and white points in curves, gave it some overall contrast and some color contrast. Punched up the yellows in a hue/saturation layer. Tried some sharpening; not sure how successful that was.

I think I just overprocessed it. You're right Ryan...I think this was at 1.8... a little too narrow. Practice...practice...
Thanks...
Paula

...and yeah...people gotta eat...where do you think the restaurant ducks come from  Bob?

edit: thanks john. I think we were posting at the same time. It looks better on the laptop than it does on the desktop! (both are supposed to be calibrated...guess I need to recal the desktop!)
