For those who will read this posting, using a diffuser to soften the direct sunshine is a good idea, and making your own
may save you some money, but it is a lot simpler to simply shoot in the shade.
The last time I saw a bed sheet diffuser in action was on a Dean Collins instructional video where he was shooting a woman and her horse outdoors in direct sunshine. The diffuser was I suppose about seven or eight feet square and stretched over a lightweight aluminum frame to keep it taught. The whole thing weighed I suppose about 20 pounds (or about 9.5 kg) and there was a slight breeze. It took four men to hold it in place. If you have four strong people to hold it while you are shooting more power to ya, but as I said before step into the shade where you will have a whole lot less problems with overexposed backgrounds and so forth.
