Bennmiller Resort Wedding

Pages [1] 2
A large number of my wedding are for clients who either do not live in Canada or are not local to me - have decided to get married at an Ontario resort or cottage that they may own - and have found my style of photography on the web and booked me online. Except for he exception, I never get to meet or talk to my clients before the wedding day - or after. So far we have always seemed to have an instant rapour with each other resulting in great relaxed images - - - exactly what they hire me for.

This very expensive wedding coverage lasted around 3 1/2 hours in total. I shoot very quickly and provide an incredible selection for them to choose from. The bride who is from Vermont USA contacted me after deciding to get married at the Bennmiller resort in Ontario. The man she married is a helicopter pilot and owns a Helicopter Transport company in British Columbia. This 11" x 14" album is their final selection as I designed it for them.

Rob,

Can you answer a few questions about your album design?

On some pages, Page_02_03 for example, I am guessing that the background is not one of their selections or is and was used elsewhere in the album.  In other cases (Page_06_07) this is less obvious and on Page_10_11 it looks like these are the same images that appear elsewhere on the page.  So the questions are:  How do you go about selecting background images for your pages?  Do you limit yourself to images chosen by the bride and groom or pull some that you like (or specifically shot) for backgrounds?  Not talking about backgrounds now: Do you ever add images to the couples selection?  Either a favorite of yours or just something to fill a page or make the selection flow smoother?

Thanks,

Ed

The book design is how I feel it should look - and when I am designing it I see it as a whole and so there has to be a flow to the look of the pages overall. Being design is a visual thing for me (not predetermined or set) - I make background choices as I go along according to the overall FEEL of the whole project. Sometimes I feel like using solids - sometimes I feel like taking an image or combination of images and abstracting the and blurring them - sometimes I take images that the couple have not picked that have background image  written all over them - and sometimes I take the page elements and layer them and play with densities, colors or anything else. It just looks right when I am done. The only choice the customer has in the process are the 35 (8x10) or 65 (11x14) images that they want used. The odd time I do add an image to balance the page or total concept. Like my photographic style, it is easy to identify one of my albums (wedding books) because it is my style - - - and yet each one is unique as a result of going by the feel and not depending on premade templates for the design. The feel I put in to the design is also relative to the couples personality and likes and dislikes I have picked up from working with them on their wedding day.

I love the photos, your style is one that I study. (the love story is one of my favorite concepts)

On the 2-3, 4-5 and 6-7 pages it seems the middle of the page splits an image.

Why?

I don't design these to emulate the matted pages combinations of traditional albums. They are more like a book where the gutter often cuts through images. I like the look is all I have as an answer for you. Thanks for your nice comments - glad you find what I do of value.
