A good square crop nicely balanced triangle.

I would say that the subject is underexposed and could be sharper.
There is a color cast issue, on the blue side.

F8 is a good aperture to use, it is also the sweet spot of a lens.
I would also recommend to use the sunny 16 rule as a starting point, you won't have to rely on AUTO modes.

Great positioning.  I agree it could be a bit sharper, but that could be compression?  It doesn't look blurry, per se.
The one thing that bothers me that can be fixed in PS is the light blades of grass shooting straight for his eye.  I wouldn't notice it if it wasn't going toward his eye.
Overall I think it's good.  I personally like the aperature, it blurs the background just enough.  And yes, you could lighten it just a touch.
