Here's a couple, this one I'm thinking of hanging in the gallery, it's a 12x18

I like the portrait the best! It shows us his wonderful wispy neck feathers. Smiley

Great detail.  Have you noticed a lot of birds have similar eyes to snake?  They kinda scare me... that's why I don't like bird pictures... or birds for that matter.  It's kinda a stupid phobia, but I can't help it.

I like the first and last the best.  On the second, his head kind of blends with the water in the background and you lose some definition.

Yes, I wasn't overly keen about #2, however, these guys are hard to get so close, glad I got something.
I was within Meters, I thought for sure it would have taken off. 50 meters, they spook, this guy, about 10

We have quite a few herons living around here.  They seem to spend a lot of time in artificial retention basins . . .

I will have to drag the camera with me and see what I can get near.  I have discovered that you can get very, very, close if you can stay in the car!  Not very "in the wild", I know . . .

I do the same, the car acts as a blind, so, why not, sure, it's in the wild.
I get fairly close to Birds of Prey if in the car, but, if I'm out, forget it.

Post your results eh.  Looking forward to them.

One of the reasons I bought a window mount tripod. Grin

The "not exactly in the wild" comment referred to the herons hanging out in man made retention basins . . . not to shooting from the car.  Hell, if I could I would shoot weddings from my car.  The seat is more comfortable and the music is better!
