good job, I would think burning the background behind his head would add some contrast but might not work (I'm guessing you tried a dozen different background shades)

Mike,  I love the textures and character that you have shown.  It is an awesome portrait, I think.  I do wonder if the subject wouldn't stand out better if the background were a little more blurry, but not so much that you lose the effect.

Hair light looks a bit hot but I can't decide if its a good or bad thing.
