Cedar Waxwing and Swallow

Went down to the trails today and tried really hard to get some good bird photos, despite they were all against the bright sky (my dreaded nemesis!). These are the best of the bunch.

These have only been cropped and adjusted in Levels for white balance.

Marian, I think you did a good job with the first.  The sky is fine, I think.  That being said, I don't know how to comment on bird pictures, besides that I like them.  The flying one is cool.  I don't like shooting kids because they move so much, flying birds are beyond me.

Excellent efforts.

I treat wildlife like humans, waiting for the right time to capture, even when sometimes they are so close, background to me is important.

You're not alone in that problem.  It's tough to get a good background when you're shooting upwards against a bright sky.  Most of the bird shots I've taken that I've actually liked were at a zoo where the background was more controlled. The best ones were in San Antonio where they have a walkway that's pretty much at bird eye level so shots are either level or downward.
