Cheap laser printer may not be the best deal

Link: Why a $100 Color Laser Printer May Not Be the Best Deal

Interesting article that pretty much echoes what most of us already knew. Printer manufacturers make up for cheap printers with expensive toner / ink.  The numbers worked out to between $2,500 and $3,000 to print 50,000 sheets regardless of the printer.  Somewhere between 10 and 20,000 prints the difference is only about $100 between the highest and lowest cost of operation, which may or may not correlate to the actual cost of the printer.

I suppose the lesson is that if you're going to use your printer relatively heavily then it's worth dropping the extra money to buy a better printer and the cost will even out as you buy toner.

I bought one of those bulk ink things, works really great in theory. What they don't tell you is how much grief you'll go though getting the thing set up.

I only print with big labs, if it costs more to use them its not enough to matter.
