I'm going to have to go back when it's not sitting in full sun. Tongue

ooh the rainbow is cool.

very nice, love the rainbow. I would probably clone or burn the ash bark showing through so the white wouldn't stand out so. Not that it actually needs it, just what I would do.

It's a good effort, it is over exposed at the water, nice rainbow, have you a C.P.? or ND Grad

I had to look those filters up...circ polarizing and neutral density graduated..I have filters but not for every size lens! How many filters do you need?! The filter thing has kind of gone out of style as people can fix everything in photoshop now...(NOT).

edit; oops...cool photo Marian. (took a while to load and I had to remark on the filter thing)

I don't have any filters for that lens. As I said in the first post, I want to go back when the falls aren't in full sun, because it was so hard not to overexpose. I even went all the way to max f-stop for a couple of photos and they were still overexposed at the shutterspeed I wanted to use. There was no way I was going to get smooth waterfall at that time of day with those falls. Smiley But it was fun to try. The interesting thing is that when I brought this one up in RAW, there were no red areas on the water. I expected the entire waterfall to be red, LOL.

Looking at your exif, first you need to set your Compensation to zero and don't touch it, leave it at zero.
Secondly F13, can you not close down more, I'm sure you can.

Red? the clipping, or the red histogram.?

I bought a GND filter right before I bought my first digital body.  It got used about twice.  It works well if the horizon line is perfectly straight and can line up with the line down the middle of the filter.  If not, you wind up with an odd line through the center of your shot.  This is one of those things that I think it really is better to fix it in Photoshop later than to try and get it right in camera.  It just takes multiple images.  Expose for each section of the image, put each on a separate layer, and do some masking to get it right.

I love my polarizer.  Just haven't gotten a new one since switching lenses last year.  My old short zoom was had a 67mm thread - my new one is 82mm, which makes for a really expensive set of filters.

When Dragging the shutter for waterfalls, Ryan, you only need the one capture.    Camera

On some other photos of it, I did and it was still too bright. Tongue It was a very frustrating shoot. I had the f-stop at around 22 (I think) and just enough shutterspeed to blur the falls. Still to bright. I turned the shutterspeed to 1/250 and STILL too bright. All were shot at ISO 100. Tried messing with teh compensation. Still to bright. Flipped it to automatic, thinking the camera might know something I didn't, and still too bright.

Is there ever a situtation where you CAN'T shoot it?

The clipping. Smiley

Tongue My new lens is the same way.

Bring your noseplugs. Port Townsend is a paper mill town and the smell can be quite strong. Tongue There are some GORGEOUS areas near there. Smiley

I'm with mike, almost. If you're shooting manual never use the compensation because it just changes the shutter.
