I've had the opportunity to visit some beautiful places the last couple weeks. I have several images to post, but here is one of the first and one of my favorites so far. I did an HDR on this with three images -1/0/+1 EV.

My eyes are immediately scanning over the, what I feel is an, obstruction to the beauty I see in the background.
The colors are to die for.
I wonder if you have other images where you walked beyond to what appears to be an edge and shot for the distance.?

I believe the background is your subject, not the foreground.

I now wish I had some other images Mike. I got overconfident and felt like I had what I wanted with this one, so I didn't take any others. Normally, I look for several approaches and perspectives on any given scene, but I got docile on this one. I see what you are saying about the obstruction. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Hmmm, maybe that's what it needs. Something like this maybe? I cloned out one little distracting grass on the left side also.

Better? What do you think?

Honestly, I don't like it as much. I like it for what it is, and it was a REALLY fun photo to take. Don't get me wrong, I really like it also. I just think that it's much harder to get a comprehensive critique of something like this. Now, all of a sudden it's almost completely about personal preference. But then, most abstracts are that way. A subject that all people can relate to on some level is 'easier' to get consistent reviews and comments about its strengths and weaknesses.

I'm really glad you like it though. I almost always throw in some more 'abstract' photography with my other nature and landscape work, but no, I don't show much of it.

I think you should start.

Seriously, abstract photography is a love of mine and I would love it if you showed us more. It will also show lurkers that there is more to this site than portraits and landscapes.

Yes, there is details in the darkest areas. I can actually see it here, but I have probably taken them just a touch too dark as well in pp. There is plenty that if I were to spend the time on it, It'd print just fine. Good call though, definitely something to consider because as it is now, it would print without detail in the darkest areas.
