Dang Nikons!

Pages [1] 2
OK, so I was at the bar shoot Yesterday and I got some help learning some more about strobist style flash from a super wedding guy that uses this stuff all the time. Just to speed it up we used a couple of his sb600's so he could just command everything from his camera. After we get setup he tells me to grab my memory card and just use his camera to play around with it some. He picked the toughest spot in the place to shoot and showed me how to work it out. Dark wood hallway with no lights, dark skinned model wearing dark clothes, and a door behind her open to a blazing west sun. On the LCD they looked great. I get home and try to open them in bridge and it won't read the RAW files.

A. Bridge reads NEF, right?
B. Should I have formatted my card to his camera. I didn't. I was too excited to think about it until the drive home. Then of course I get home and...

If someone thinks they can open it I'll email one of the files to you. I'd love to get these back.

I Shoot nikon/NEF all the time to - i'm pretty sure in school they mentioned something about if your switching camera's types ...

you can switch between different nikon bodies without reformatting

would there be a plugin you can download for it to work for you?

Reformatting the card should not be the problem.  The camera wouldn't write to the card if it didn't recognize the format.

Do you normally shoot RAW?  With what body?  What body did he shoot with?  Is your bridge upto date?  It could be that you need to upgrade bridge.  I would check with Adobe on this one.

I normally shoot with a Canon 20d. It was an empty card.

You will probably need to download something.  Travis sent me some raw files once I couldn't do anything with, I can't remember what I downloaded (I am not using that computer anymore), but I just did a search online for a free program that would convert them to jpg or tiff.  It's worth a shot.

if the camera you used was a D300 or a D200 with new firmware you have to download an update from adobe to read it. you can download camera raw from Nikon but the adobe fix is MUCH better.

I shoot two SB600s with a D300 and love the effects.

That explains one problem. The guy who's camera I was using is one of Nikon's pro shooters and this was his throwdown D200 so I'm sure it has the firmware upgrade. The other problem I figured out myself just a bit ago. Somehow when I pulled the files off the card I changed the name of the extension. Even after fixing that problem Adobe doesn't recognize the file so it's back to what Bob said. Should be easy enough to fix.

Thanks everybody.

Update.

Success. I can see them now.

Just to let everyone know, Adobe doesn't support anything not CS3. If you're without the latest and greatest like me you might have to get creative. They do however have a free .dng converter to download. So far so good. Again thanks everybody for you help.

Here's an SOOC preview. I did crop it a bit.

I am having the same problem but I can't download the software on this computer and I did the update thing and it isn't working.

So I have some files I need converted, will someone convert them to Jpegs for me and send them back to me?

send them to Bob@BobEdens.com I'll open them in lightroom and save them. Send me your phone number if you want me to set the white balance or something.

Nikon has a free converter, I thought.
