Dead 10d

Any of y'all sent a camera into Canon to get worked on?  I've got a 10d that needs attention, but it seems that you have to pay just to have them look at it.  And for a camera that's several years old it seems like it may not be a great idea to spend money to have them tell me "meh, it's gonna be $800".

I guess the other side is it could be a cheaper fix.  I'm guessing a shutter problem from everything I've found online.  That seems to be the first thing to go, in which case it would be worth fixing.

contact MACK camera. http://www.mackcam.com/ they are the guys that sell warrenties for almost anything. I sent a fujifilm s7000 to them to have dust removed from inside the lens before the warrenty ran out and they cleaned the dust, the sensor, and upgraded the firmware.  They can also give you a good idea over the phone what it might cost to repair the camera.

Mack will fix almost any camera.

I had a Nikon flash repaired and when I called the guy was really helpfull helping me decide if I should spend the money to get it fixed or not.

I sent a D60 to the factory repair center in NJ.  The rep on the  phone said it was no cost to look at it (and there wasn't), shipped it back to me free of charge too.  unrepaired, as i decided to upgrade to 10D's.

Seems they have a flat rate to do more intensive repair jobs, like around $150.  I don't know what the current fee is to repair a shutter, used to be around $300.

Used (even barely used) 10D's can be had on Ebay for $300-$400.

Oh, I must have misunderstood what I read then.  It was my understanding that they charge $150 just to look at it.
