Decyphering a HistogramLibrary Thread

My Olympic Mountain photo shows a histogram that has a huge peak on the right side, a valley in the middle that goes almost all the way to the bottom, and a huge peak on the left side. I've never had a histogram that looks like that, as mine are almost always one peak starting at one side and ending at the other. What gives?

But what about the clouds? They look pretty mid-gray to me!

This is the Histogram I got from your image when I opened it in Lightroom. It shows gray values - in the higher values, so probably sky or clouds and lower values, probably trees in the foreground but lacking in the middle area, probably because of the high contrast - - - but also reflects the chopping off of the curve at both ends as a result of blown out highlights in the mountains and shadows showing no detail. This is your processed image though - are you referring to the histogram on your camera - was it totally different than what you get in Photoshop? I however am not a Histogram wiz so am only basing this on my limited knowledge (and interest) of the subject.

Thanks, Robert. I'm at work, so I'll post the histogram on the original when I get home tonight. Smiley
