Guess he didn't know about that little switch on the side of the lens that lets you focus on what you want. Or metering the subject for exposure. Or ... nevermind.

He doesn't get to get on the fence. Or his fancy shoes.

No you've got it all wrong. You say something about some beautiful photos a friend of yours took the other day. And mention that this friend has a (one step up from whatever this guy is holding)

That way when he upgrades in a few days, somebody that is working hard to find that camera gets it used in good shape.

Or tell him "Sometimes it's the memory card, let me put mine in there and try a couple shots...see it works just fine."
