free sites for multiple pictues connected to website?

My husband went on a school trip to Washington DC and took about 500 pictures (well more than that but about 500 that turned out okay).
He wants me to put them up online (originally he wanted them on my website, but I advised him that's not possible currently)...So i was thinking if I could host them somewhere with a link to my site where there's no need for someone to download a program etc. I was thinking picasa, but you have to download that program...and there's a lot of kids that may be looking at this that may not want to d.l. a program like that.

Any suggestions for how to do this?
Thanks in advance, Paula

One catch with Flickr is you'll need their Pro account ($24.95 / year) with that many images.  Otherwise they'll only show the most recent 200.  The free account also has a 100mb limit on uploads each month.

Why can't you use your site?  Photoshop has a method built in for building quick gallery websites that you could FTP to your site.

There are also sites like ImageShack and PhotoBucket, but I've never used 'em so I don't know if they'll do what you want.

Any chance his school has webspace you could use?  Seems like if it was available they'd be pretty receptive to sharing what their students do away from school.

Ryan: I have satellite and possibly could use my website if I went to a coffeeshop with a wifi connection. I tried and filezilla kept kicking me off, the kicked me off for good after 8 attempts. (gotta love living in the middle of nowhere, eh?).

The $24.95 just might be worth it although it'd be better to link it to my site. The school is still trying to rebuild their website...they have a barebones one that they're in the process of trying to upgrade.

Thanks for the info.

Wouldn't you have the same problem trying to upload to Flickr?

Yes, I'm also having trouble getting the flash viewer to work. I can work a simple slideshow or random image. One step at a time, eh?

Hi Paula

I hope I do not complicate your issues further by offering this suggestion - - - - but it appears that you now have the Flashviewer Plugin figured out and are able to display a Porta Gallery (of unlimited number of pictures) in your phpCrazySite based website.

Besides using the CrazySite for just a main website application, many photographers are creating new folders on their web space and using the CrazySite within it to display extra galleries. I don't have a problem with people using multiple instances of the purchased Crazysite, as long as it is for their own use and on the same web server as the main application usage.

As an example, one photographer is using a new uniquely named folder containing a separate instance of the CrazySite to display pictures, wording and whatever else he wants - - - for every wedding client to view - - - but by using the CrazySite he can keep the  look the same as his main website. He simply gives the client the address to that folder - example www.yourwebsite.com/jones. In this way he can present a customized website without having to design everything from scratch.

I just got thinking that you could do the same thing with the extra galleries that you are wanting to display. You would simply need to create a new folder on your web space and upload a fresh install of the CrazySite to it (all contents for this site including extra galleries would be contained in this one folder). Being that a CrazySite allows for 9 Menu links across the top, you could use the Flashviewer (connected to a Porta or Simplviewer Gallery) or Simple Slideshow Plugins to create up to 9 separate Galleries (menu pages) - and of course there is no limit to the number of images that can go in each gallery.

Anyway - just a suggestion. But maybe one that you will want to hold off on until you get the CrazySite totally figured out - - - I don't know.  Clapping  Big Grin

Ryan is a smart cookie web wise - and what he said about using flickr is absolutely right. If you are having a tough time uploading images onto your website because of a slow internet connection - - - it will be no different with flickr or any other web based upload software. All the best.

Who is your target audience for these pictures? If it's for family and friends, why not put them all into a .zip file and let people download the file via a link. Smiley

That would be pretty simple...wouldn't it? My husband's idea was to get traffic to my as yet uncompleted site. This town is really not my target market, but it's an opportunity. As of now, I'm uploading to flickr (what a pain!). But I've wasted so much time on this...I'm just ready to be done with it!
Thanks for the help,

Just make sure you are only uploading the best of the best and only what showcases what you want to be doing. For example, if you want to do wildlife photography, uploading pictures of people wouldn't help you much. Same if you want to do portraits. Pictures of wonderful sunsets won't show people how good you are with portraits.

We're going to put a disclaimer on there that he took the photos! I didn't go on the trip, we're just trying to share them with the 46 other individuals that did go. There will be no doubt about that and we'll only have it up as a link on my site for maybe a month? (certainly not forever!)

Thanks for your insight though as you make a very valid point!

Woo hoo I got the photos uploaded to my site via porta! I need to redo some things again as there are more photos that should be removed...

FYI...I paid the $24.95 for a pro flickr account and the stupid thing deleted the first 200 pictures after they spent half a day uploading! I'm irritated about that and read some other stuff about problems with the pro flickr...aw well...live and learn...
Paula
PS: I spoke too soon in that last post...I needed that perspective...I was getting too tired of playing with those files!
