good shot! looks like you had on-camera flash, way better than no flash..
see how light the grass is? you can flag (put something in front of) your flash with a card or even your hand to prevent that.

I like how light the grass is as it's the perfect counterpart to the bright sky.

Corey, I think this is THE BEST work I've seen from you! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this image. The soft wind in her hair, the position of the flowers, how the clouds mimic the lines of the hills. Put it in your portfolio!

Thank you guys!

Thanks for the tip Bob! In this photo I like the brightness of the grass, but there are some that I would prefer it blend more.

We were just about to give up since the sky had clouded over and become dark when all of a sudden it broke into sun with a breeze. The last 15 mins of the hour was amazing light. And then thunder and lightning and we were forced to head for shelter.  Life in Colorado.  Big Grin

I think she'll be a very willing model in the future and Im excited to work with her again. I have some requests for senior photos in the fall so she will be an excellent practice model.

Thanks again.

First photo is amazing, it has a very editorial feel (magazine-like).
I love everything about it, including the bright grass.

The second image is okay, I don't like the shadow across her eye.

Thanks Susie.
I'd have loved nothing more that day than to cut that section of hair right off her head! Head to Wall

Wow, that was some bright light. Nice location, I wish we had that much green grass around here.

If you can get your flash off camera somehow you can use the sunlight and fill with the flash. http://photoartsforum.com/chelbi_and_rim_lighting-t2416.0.html A reflector works great too, but it helps to have a helper to position it just right. Sometimes it even works better.

I did have a reflector. But I think at this point in the shoot I shooed her out of the way because I didnt want to mess around and lose the light behind the clouds again.
Im still learning to use them much less tell someone how to do it. I need to work on that.
Thanks.
I think I need to make a big step towards further understanding lighting techniques. It seems like the rest of my skills have caught up to that point.
Its exciting to look back over the last couple of years of photos and see the progress.
I may be the slowest progress-or in the world, but it is there.

Don't feel like your going slow. I'm just now starting to actually like some of my work. Getting my flash easily off camera and onto a stand has helped a bunch. I wish I had done that a year ago instead of trying to rig a bunch of DIY stuff. I can concentrate more on the photo and less on making the gear work. I'd say if you want to work with just ambient invest in some good reflectors and use them, or if you want to mix get a cheap flash you can use in manual mode and a reliable way to trigger it off camera and use them. Either way just use them. If I didn't have to pay the bills and could shoot three or four full days a week I'd be a light year ahead of where I am today.
