Help me find an item?

I'm trying to find the hardware to attach my hotshoe flash to the camera so that it's not directly above the lens. What th' heck are these things called?? I've tried "off-shoe" but no luck in Google. I have a Minolta 7D. Tongue They attach to the tripod hole, don't they?

bracket, you need a synch cord too, that's the pricey part.

Brackets aren't cheap either Cheesy Grin

It might be cheaper to get light stands and umbrellas and a wireless radio slave... and keep the flash as far from the camera's hot shoe as possible Big Grin

Sorry, I'm prejudiced against on-camera flash.  You'll have to forgive me.  In all honesty, I understand the reason for using flash attached to the camera and I even do it... occasionally.

Also, maybe you should consider making a setup with hot-shoe adapters and sync cords instead of the mfr's cords because they are very expensive.  Of course, that means you won't have your camera's auto functions to control the flash....  But even something like THIS RADIO SLAVE could do it and you wouldn't have any wires in the way.

on camera flash is necessary for a lot of situations.  A bracket with a synch cord is a good option for improving your pictures.  It will reduce red-eye, but don't count on it doing anything for nasty shadows.

It does make your camera heavy though... haul that setup around for an 8 hour wedding and your wrist will get so tired, trust me, I know.

I know, I conceded that it was needed sometimes.

Hmmm, maybe that's why I don't like doing wedding photography, flash brackets...

Perhaps, or you are just a bitter person that doesn't like being around all that love and celebrating Smiley
I am trying to fix my shadow problems... but it requires light stands taller than what I think I am buying....

I was about to break down and get a bracket but it looks bad to me.

I shot 700+ photos at a bikini contest the other night using my flash set at TTL with the stofen (sp) attachment at 45º red eye in one shot that I know of so I'm happy.
