I use SB600s so they're a little different.
The D300 and D200 are about the same, the D70 WILL ONLY work on channel A
Go to the pencil (custom setting menu)
choose e Bracketing/Flash
choose e3 Built-in Flash
set it to commander mode
I use the following settings, start with these and work out from there.
Built-in -- TTL -2 or you can set it to -- instead of TTL
Group A -- TTL +1
Group B -- TTL +0
make note of the channel number.
press enter to save
now pick up the flash unit.
I push Zoom and minus (-) until the swiggle arrow is on the screen then press mode to turn it on.
push the power button for a half second to go back to the main window
you should see the swiggle arrow and the channel and group channel should match what was in the camera the groups are A for main B for fill
the popup flash must be able to see the IR sensor on the side of the flash. (on mine its on the side with the battery door)
you now have a "studio" light setup waiting where ever you go.
You may need to set your SB800 to commander slave if such a setting exists because the 800 can command but the 600 cannot.
