Houston Police Officers Memorial

These are from a few months ago when I went to the Houston Police Memorial to take some night shots of the Houston skyline.  Turns out the memorial itself was much more interesting, both from a historical view and also photographically.

The first image isn't especially interesting, but it does show the shape of the memorial with the skyline behind it.

And I sort of cheated on the last one  Grin  Because it was dark I had a maglight in my pocket so that I could see where I was walking and used it for this shot.

On the second and third image you can see names etched into the stone.  The name of every Houston police officer that has died while on duty, back to the 1800's, is on the memorial.  It's a surprisingly powerful place, especially considering that there is always an HPD officer stationed to watch over the memorial.

Where is this at? I tried googling the address I found for it, but it just shows up at some of the big houses on Memorial Drive off of San Felipe.

We had a really hard time finding it.  It's sort of tucked away at the bottom of a hill.  It's near Buffalo Bayou.

Here it is on Google Maps.

Second shot is my favourite, I like how the building lights shine on the memorial.

Like Susie, I love the second one as well. It's like the city is shining down its love in light on the memorial. Powerful.

Ahh, backside of Washington cemetary. That should make it easy to find. I wish I didn't have a prior commitment, that might be a good place to get some shots during the fireworks show tomorrow night.
