How do you "learn" photographyLibrary Thread

I love this thread!  I'm getting my materials prepped to do the same.  It's hard to know what to put into a basic class, especially when it will only meet for like 2 hours once a week for a month.

I don't know how much time to spend on any certain thing though.

So, I just finished my class.  It went well.  I brought a projector to show my example images.
It went really well I think.  They had lots of questions.  I am glad I did a little preparation about archiving and printing, they had lots of questions about that particularly.
I assume my information was good because a lot of the women were madly taking notes about what I said.

One of the questions a woman asked was why her camera wouldn't focus on her baby, was the baby too wiggly, was the focus broke?  After I asked her a few questions it dawned on me.  I said, do you hear the lens go "zzzz zzzz zzzz" before it takes the picture?  YES she said.  I explained she was too close and how her camera was having a hard time focusing because it was out of the focus range and to move back and zoom in.  She was so excited that I figured it out.

Another lady brought some prints she had taken.  After the class she came up and asked me to critique them.  We talked awhile and she seemed so grateful that I took the time.  Her images were really good and she beamed when I showed her where to crop one of them (above the joint) and that she needed to print it big and hang it on her wall.

Did you get any feedback from them about if the material was relevent to what they were wanting to know?

Yes, I suppose.  Afterward I asked the ladies in charge if I had covered what they hoped I would and they said they don't know anything about photography so they didn't have a preconceived idea of what I would be talking about, but that I did a great job and they were going to try out what they learned.

I will be honest, I was a little surprised at how basic of a level most of them were at.  I shouldn't have been.  I mean, I should realize that photography doesn't consume most people's lives like it tends to do with mine.

Bob, lol, I have a feeling I won't be getting any paid teaching gigs from this, unfortunately, since this was a church function I did it for the blessings  Big Grin

Bring lots of baby, family, and pet shots next time for your slideshow. Then hand out some cards. It'll be a paying gig even if you don't get a check from the church.

Good idea.  Too bad I didn't think of it before this happened.
