How not to market your services

Just got a call from a company that "specializes in helping market professional wedding photographers."  A mix of not wanting a sales call at dinner time and my daughter crying made it a quick hangup.  The guy calls back and tells me "you're babysitting, you don't have a job, I can hear kids in the background."

Personally, I think it's funny that a sales guy would take that approach to getting hung up on.  Professionally I can't imagine what kind of service you would get from a company like that.

Wow weird! Babysitting? Seriously?

On the topic of sales people calling - I get SOOO many sales calls that I just let my voicemail pick up all my calls which is such poor customer service on my part when it's clients calling.  But I am that frustrated.

Oh, and my favorite line that I hear all the time is when these people trying to sell me advertising or marketing or whatever tell me that my clients can't find me... um, how did the sales guy find me then?

Ryan, it's a shame you didn't catch the name of the marketing company. It would be nice to ask them if the marketing they would do for you involved the same style as they use for their own cold calls.

I did Cheesy Grin Live Deal.  It looks like some type of portal site along the lines of City Search.

"are you serious? you think insults are going to get you sales.  I bet you make minimum wage as a telemarketer, at least babysitting is a little bit higher than that."  Click.
