How to deal with "widescreen" monitors

Ok I am quite computer savvy but I am not sure how to deal with this one...

I have been working on developing a web site...I put some things in place and they look fine when I look at them on a standard monitor.

I was at the local library though and went to show a change to my wife and the images looked horrible. They realy seemed to be destorted by the wide screen monitor....is there a simople way to fix this?

I would post my web site but I am not quite ready for a critique yet... Smiley

The issue is not with your website but with the computers at the library.  When you install a wide monitor, you need to set the screen resolution to a wide setting.  I wouldn't worry about it . . . any clients that see your images distorted on their screen will be used to seeing distorted images because every image on their system will have the same problem!

The only problem with widescreen is where you want to have the main frame / part of your website.
If you say centre, then there is alot of space along the left and right.

In my webiste my mainframe / center frame is about 800 - 850 pixels wide.
I decided to have 100 - 125 pixels on the left frame and fill the rest with the right frame percentual

This together with the right settings should give a good result.

IMPORTANT. I noticed myself that when using a widescreen you should use the maximum resolution. Otherwise your screen is noth that sharp as it should be. I am having an Eizo Color Edge CE210 W (1680 x1050 Pixels) and am very pleased with it.
