Illustrator brush disabled?

Anybody an Illustrator guru?

I took an SVG file, loaded it into Illustrator, and then saved as a .AI file. Now the paintbrush tool won't work. Pencil will, and if I make a new file the brush works fine. But it won't work on the converted files even if I make a new layer. Can't find anything about locks either.

Thoughts?

Happens way more often than it should, but it seems like whenever I post a question anywhere I find the answer within 5 minutes Cheesy Grin

Turns out there weren't any brushes loaded. There was a default shown, but when I loaded a brush set and picked one from there it worked.
