Uploading Actions

Alright, I have some saved actions I would like to share... but I don't know where to find them on my computer to upload them.  Anyone know?

I have a folder under MyDocs that I keep all of 'em in, but they could really be anywhere.  There probably is a default spot, but I don't know where it is.  Easiest thing may be to hit Win-S and search for *.atn files.

Another question.
How do you put notes in?  Does anyone know?  I have a great skin softening action that I wrote (well, I think it's great) but I need to write a note about how to use it, because it's a mask and you have to paint in the areas you want softened.

Easiest thing would probably be to put a readme file in the zip along with the .atn.  I've also seen some that pop up a dialog box at important steps telling you what to do.

Yeah I wanted a cute little pop up dialog box.  I guess I can copy one from an action that someone else wrote and move it into my action and change the text.  I'll try that.

Ok, apparently you can save actions for exporting right in Photoshop.  But you can't save single actions.  You have to first create a new set, move the action(s) in that you want to share.  Highlight the set.  Then in the actions palette (up in the upper right, looks like three lines) click Save Actions and then just pick where you want to save them.

Ryan, any way we can have a thread which lists links to all of the actions people upload and then sticky that thread in the library?

I second the motion.  I love actions!

Hand raised in favorable vote.

I'm trying to think of a way to automate that, and I haven't been able to come up with a good one.  I think what it's going to take is someone to post a thread and then edit their post as new actions are uploaded.  Any volunteers Cheesy Grin

I'll try something if it works cool if not delete it.

Here's what I'm thinking.  Instead of one thread where all the actions get uploaded, how 'bout we have a thread that just links to all of the actions.  Since anyone can edit their own thread it really doesn't matter who starts the thread.

I'm picturing something like...

Skin Softening
link to action 1
action 2
action 3
...

Sharpening
...
...
...
...

Random & Fun
...
...
...

and so on...

couldn't you just have a topic to the side that says actions where it says "digital tools" and "portraits" and so on.  then we could just post our actions there in a new thread so we could discuss them and show examples.

Don't see why not Cheesy Grin

The plan originally was to have a sub forum for actions, one for Photoshop, etc when the need arose but I didn't want to start with too many empty boards if they weren't going to get used.

Let's try that and move my action over and then it won't be empty to start with.  I'll try and share more actions...  I just need to find a moment to do it.  I am still not out of the editing woods yet.
