It looks like the inside of a gun turret on a ship. (Or a very old tank). The second photo is the cordite charge to fire the projectile.

Very good, got it in one.

14" gun in the #2 turret of BB-35. Last surviving dreadnought in the world. The first photo is manual firing station for the gun underneath the breach. People don't normally get to go down in there because it's pitch black. I had one speedlight bungeed to a piece of protruding metal at camera left and fired remotely. Had to focus by guestimation method and chimping.

We got to spend the night aboard last night to photograph the ship at night and sunrise, sunset shots. Those will be forthcoming as I get them processed.
