My take on the flower gridLibrary Thread

After seeing Laura's flower grid I had to try it myself.   Along the way I wrote down what I did and took a few screen shots.  Probably not the best or most efficient way, but I think it turned out pretty well.

The Image
I wanted a 16x20 print with a square image so I dug through until I found a flower shot that would look good in a square proportion.  Color wasn't all that important since I'm going to change the colors anyway.

Cropping & Canvas Size
I wanted a 1 inch border on each side of the 16" width so the image needed to be cropped to a 14 inch square.

And then I changed the canvas size twice.  Once adding 2" all the way around to give me a 16" square and then 4" to the bottom to make the canvas 16x20".

And I added a solid black layer behind the image to make it look more poster like.

A Grid and the Lines
Next I added the grid lines to make the squares.  I wanted it divided into quarters so I put grid lines at 1", 4.5", 8", 11.5", and 15" both horizontally and vertically.  I then put a 0.5" black line on top of each grid line.

Changing colors
To change the colors I used the marquee tool to select each square, in turn, and added a Hue / Saturation adjustment layer.  By selecting the area first it took care of masking for me.

And the layers looked something like this after the first adjustment.

Then it was just a matter of repeating for each square I wanted to change.  I changed 14 and left 2 the original orange.

And I was left with the following image.

All that was left was my name.  I typed my name and dragged a duplicate of the flower layer underneath.  The bright orange was too much so I changed the saturation and darkened it a little.

That's awesome! I love it.

Your name looks really cool too, that is a really good idea to put the flower behind it.
