First Photo Post

My first submission.  I haven't been taking photos long but I've found I enjoy going out and finding interesting things to photograph.  I recently started to play around with HDR photos and filters in Photoshop. I used a tripod and if I remember correctly I was at 28mm.  I did a 9 Photo bracket shot with a Nikon D200.

Welcome, I am so glad you jumped right in.

I love the colors and the composition.  The processing is a bit obvious because there are halos around some of the objects.  I have been seeing that a lot lately with the different actions and plug-ins that are popular.
With that being said there is something here that reminds me of Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night.  Colors and processing.

Very nice! and welcome Ray (yes folks, he's a Tennessee boy, [grin])
I'm not sure the fishing boat should be that close to the edge, but its a nit pick. There is nothing about the photo that "needs" to be changed.

I kinda went for the processed look because everything in Chattanooga is over photographed so I've been trying to get a new look on some things.  I'm not sure where you see a halo around objects, could you point out a few places so I can be sure what I'm looking for?

I waited and waited for the boat to float out of frame but he was just determined to catch something.  I wish he would have or at least been pulling a fish out.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Ray,

Very nice work!

The first halo that I notice is over the arch at the center of the bridge.  The sky looks lighter very close to the metal work.

I know how you felt waiting for the boat to "do something or get out of the way".  All that I can recommend is that Ansel Adams would camp for days waiting for the right light!

The only real recommendation that I would make is to crop bottom of the image and make more of a panorama.  Where the water turn black, it is not adding to the image.

Couldn't really do anything to get rid of the Halo but I did crop it and I think it looks better but it's something I didn't think about.

Ray, it looks great.

Just wondering, are you using topaz or photomatix? if so, in "Details" you can reduce the boost etc. to slightly rid of the halo. Another way is to reduce the opacity in the Layers pallet so long as the layer was duplicated before the action.

Photoshop CS2 I may have to go back a few files and see if I can't get rid of that halo.

Halo, did you use a "High pass" sharpening method?
And sometimes, when over punching colors in "Hue Sat" halos and banding will occur.

all I did was play with the curve in local adaption, shadows and highlights and poster edges. I guess I need to play more since I know what I'm looking for now Smiley

The poster edges was more likely the one that is causing the halos
