*Night" shots are best made at twilight while the sky is deep blue rather than black. Experienced photographers call that "the magic hour". If you set your white balance for tungsten you will get a warm glow in street lights, illuminated signs, traffic lights, and light coming from the inside of buildings. The sky will register as a rich magical blue- if there is a tiny bit of sunset left the colors can be outstanding. I usually set up near the end of sunset and shoot until the sky begins to turn black.
If yo stop the lens down (to a small aperture) and use a ling exposure, you will get some interesting star-like effect from point light sources such as streetlights in the distance.
I hope this helps! Ed
