Just for fun I thought I would give my two cents on the best and worst types of wedding dresses to shoot. Everyone else can chime in with their opinions or stories about wedding dresses.
My least favorites:
Strapless - I don't care how skinny the bride is you have to watch for the little fold of skin by the armpit. You have to catch the problem with posing it's hard or impossible to edit. Halter top style dresses have the same problem, but not nearly as bad.
Tight straight dresses or mermaid style skirts - Posing is restricted and difficult to do without creating unflattering creases. The bride is also usually self conscious in them.
Really long trains - Bridals are a nightmare because you have to try so hard not to get the train dirty, and it takes forever to position. And I hate the shots where the train is brought around to the front, it's just not natural.
My favorites:
Petal sleeves - These are done on short sleeves, they are kinda split and overlapping, if you don't know what they are. They allow more freedom of movement for the arms. Very ingenious.
Lace, damask or sheer overlays - They photograph better if you have to use flash, they don't have that horrible satin shine that looks old fashioned.
Veils - I know it's a trend not to wear a veil but they do lend themselves to creative shots.
As a bonus I hate tea length dresses on bridesmaids, they are popular right now but I think they make the legs look short and frumpy.
Sheesh, I am so opinionated!
