Tennis ball image stabilizer

Not quite as handy as the go-anywhere string stabilizer, but it might do in a pinch.  The tennis ball stabilizer uses a lead weight inside the ball to help counteract movement of your camera along the same lines as a steady cam, although in a much more hacky way.

Depending on how well it worked, seems like some company would latch onto the idea and make it look more legit.

It is supposed to act like a counter balance to the weight of the camera.  My opinion is that they are trying to change the center of gravity of the camera so it feels better while they are holding it.

I dont get it.

OK if you take a ball of steel that weighs the same as your lens and suspended it behind and below the camera it would make the entire camera heaver but balanced like it had no lens. That way, since its not front heavy you should be able to hold it steady easier.

Yeah, okay, I get it, I know what a counter balance is.
Couldn't shoot for long periods of time with it, my arm gets tired holding my camera with a small lens for very long.

In theory, the counterbalance could make you able to hold the camera longer... but I only bring that up so that I can argue about something that is irrelevant (because that's what I do) Big Grin
