I don't know what it is, but new camera announcements just aren't as exciting to me as they used to be.  I don't know if it's because the old beater cameras I have do the job they need to do and I don't see any reason to upgrade.  Or maybe it's because I know that there's no way I could justify a camera that expensive.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very cool camera.  And if I had the money sitting around idle with nothing else to do with it the camera would be near the top of the list.

Yeah... I don't have money to buy a camera... and I'm a photographer so who does?  We seriously rent equipment to shoot weddings because we have only one camera right now.
You know, at the cost it takes to rent a camera it would take a REALLY LONG time to get to the point where it would have been better to buy one, and I don't have to maintain it.  I do have one camera and a backup, we rent a second for weddings.

Hehe, I'm in the same boat ya'll are. I can't justify the cost or the need. But I can't wait to see the work coming from the people who can.

I am giving serious thought to the new 7D. I know video is going to be a skill that we'll all have to be familiar with to stay competitive and it has a good price point for an into. I love my 20D but I'm starting to have issues with it's limitations and the work I tend to do. I'm taking that as a sign to start looking at an upgrade.

Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before. -- Mae West

Chattanooga Portrait Photographer BobEdens.com

I was at a photog get together last week to meet zarias.com and he gave a little speech on the downfall of gear envy. G.A.S. as he calls it (gear acquisition syndrome. To make it short he pointed out how he put himself waaay into debt buying gear he couldn't even use well because he thought it would make his photos better. He ended up broke, divorced, and working at Kinko's. After he crawled out of despair and into the light again he started off the second time with a borrowed camera with a couple lenses, and a cheap speedlite. He worked all the jobs he used to think were beneath him to pay off his credit cards, open a studio, and have a family again. His advice was to "rock what ya got" and forget about the latest and greatest, rent what you need when you need it, and don't expect gear to make you a better photographer.

He has good taste in beer too.

John, I love that story.
I like the "rock what ya got" quote, I say something similar to my boudoir clients when they say "I don't look like a supermodel", however, I like this quote better.

Thanks. The night was a real "pick me up". I'd listen to people takl all night about their newest and greatest gear. How great their 5dmkII's or d700's were, which L glass they liked better, etc. The Zack makes his gear speech. I'm the one guy who stuck my arm up out of 25-30 when he asked who was still using an "old" camera. It was a good feeling for a change.

So I'll keep rockin what I got instead of fakin it till I make it.
