Nikon D90 and 18-200mm VRII lens - Initial Impressions

I'll start by saying, this lens is heavy! It took a few minutes for me to get used to the additional weight in my hands.

The placement of the shutter release is a bit more forward than my Minolta.

The on/off switch is located just over the adjustment wheel and I accidentally turned off the camera when trying to adjust the aperture.

The focusing is really quiet! Love it.

The image/menu selection button is a bit too close to the digital display and when I went to page left, my finger kept hitting the edge of the display.

When using Live View, it takes longer to find focus.

The beep was annoying, so I turned that off.

Aperture Test:

Noise Test: (f/5.6, 200mm, ISO 1600 - straight out of camera)

While some complain about the layout of the menus, I found them easy to navigate and understand.

Vibration Reduction test:

So... I'm off to play some more. Smiley

You are learning all the things the Nikon geeks have already forgotten.

Killer camera, killer lens. Once you get the "feel" you will rock that setup.

compared to my 50-500sigma your lens is a featherweight. [grin]

Well Marian, you are way more thorough than I am when I get a new camera. Just remember what I said before, it takes a little time to get used to everything.
