I'm pretty sure we have some IT geeks out there
I've got several ethernet devices (2 or 3 computers depending on where my notebook is, 1 printer, and a vonage box) connecting to a 100mbit switch that then connects to a AT&T router which handles handing out IP addresses through DHCP. The computers have gigabit cards. If I replaced the switch with one that can handle gigabit connections would they connect at 1gb speeds or would they be limited by the 100mbit from the router?
None of the computer gear connects directly to the AT&T box. They all plug in to the switch, which in turn connects to the AT&T box.
