got a nikon 105mm vr macro-first attempt

took it out for a spin last night just before sunset .... d300, manual  f11, 1/200th iso 400, sb-900 flash  on manual.

flash was used on manual... the lower the power the faster the burst..  i actually found using manual flash a breeze. it was so predictable, and it froze any movement.

Whoooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! *drool*

I know what I want for Christmas now!

Nice catchlights in the bee's eyes, too. Smiley

Love the second one of the first set. I'm a sucker for fuzzy bee shoulders.

That third bee photo is definitely my favorite, although all of them are perfectly executed.  Keep 'em coming!  These are great!

Damn! We all have to step up a little again.

Ditto on the 3rd bee shot.

I'm with marian on the bee's shoulders. great work.

You were using a 105mm macro on a d300 so you were at effective 160mm how far were you from the subject?  Have you ever considered a ring flash?

about 2 feet away...i never tried a ring flash but alot of folks say they are flat and boring looking in their light.
