I recently separated from the military and I've been thinking about this shot for a while. Not sure if I pulled it off or not. Anyways I've been staring at it for too long. I need an outside opinion. Thoughts?

Great idea..

you might be able to make the image more emotional by changing things a bit.
(I said might, it just possibly is where it needs to be)

try different ways to hold them. fist would be one.
look at perhaps putting your boots in the background or some other significant prop.
flag is overdone, so you have to work hard to make it different.

I love how minimalist it is. High key, high contrast, subject centric; that's a style I like. For the web image though you may want to add a stroke a couple pixels wide to give it a frame so it's not just floating on the web page.

It looks a touch over processed, but other than that I love it. The open hand gives it a bit of a hopeless feeling like he's holding the tags of someone he lost.

Agree with this, although it doesn't affect the image itself. Had a similar conversation about one of Marian's images several months ago, although it looks like she went back and added a border. http://photoartsforum.com/sailboat_in_white-t2471.0.html .  That image is in the featured rotation and I added a 1px gray stroke to it to separate it from the white background of the site.

I'm in LOVE with this image. The position of the hand could be interpreted soooo many ways that it's very compelling. Is the person dead with the tags hanging from a lifeless hand? Is it someone giving back the medals, out of regret or loss?

*spins*

PUT THIS IN THE ROTATION, RYAN!!! *cough*

WOW, I love this piece.

I agree with most.  I like the picture, but I would like different posistioning of the dog tags.  I love the minimalisticness of it.(don't ya love made up words  Big Grin)

Love the composition on this one; did you shoot on a white bg or was the image cut out?  I only ask because some bits around the hand have some jaggies, but that could be the processing.  Regardless, the minimal tonal spectrum here really emphasizes the emotion behind the shot too.  Well done!
