Jenna

Ive learned that I need to do some extra studying on posing but most of these turned out nice. This was a senior photo shoot but she wanted some that were a bit more artsy than the standard senior photos. Number one was inspired by a shot that Marian posted a while back.
What is the best way to get better at posing subjects. Thats the number one thing I'm struggling with at the moment.

posing is hard. You did very well that I can see but you missed one thing. First image had too much light on her face. Yes it exposed well but she is squinting. Same with the third one.

get in the shade or put the sun behind her and use flash. You can also try to coach her how to smile without scrunching her eyes. (If the sun is in someone's face they are going to squint (be it direct or reflected))

You did well on the poses, the lines are nice and she doesn't look uncomfortable.
there are hundreds of books and e-books on posing a lot available for free.

another decent source is modelmayhem.  find a good pose and if it has a "list" under it then that should lead you to more. You can start with my profile (#44363) or one of the best photographers I've ever seen (I am a big fan of this guy) G.W.Burns (#11291)

Something more like this?

Except for cutting off her wrists... Cry oops.

Exactly!
OK you've a good photo except you cut her hands off.

try cropping it such that you also cut the tips of her elbows and the top of her head.

Good call Bob. 8x10 seems to fit much better.
