Red Rock State Park

Today I ventured over to Red Rock State Park. I was having a great time, taking pictures, staring in awe at what nature can do, until I tripped and scraped three inches of flesh from my knee and wrenched my ankle.  That said, here are some of the photos I got before that happened. You can see the rest on my blog at http://www.wildmaven.org/mmurdoch/archives/1488

Is that the park with the amphitheater dug into the rock? I went there years ago, and would have to dig through transparencies to find my shots Cheesy Grin

Hi Marian.  I really love the last one!  The others are good and definitely have some potential... possibly a better time of day for some more drama, but the last one here is very interesting to me as it is.  Sorry to hear about your scrape, that's a rough way to end a great day shooting.

Ryan, I'm not entirely sure that there aren't more like it, but there's a natural amphitheater in Utah just outside of St. George where they actually put on plays and such.  The theater is called Tuacahn and it's located at the mouth of Snow Canyon.  Not sure if this is what you're thinking of or not.

Yeah, I agree about the lighting. I just went because I needed to get out of the house and explore some of my new home here in California. I was there around 1pm. Most of what I did was just walk the trail to see what was there, but I was only upright for about half an hour before my fall. There's one canyon that has some really great potential for sunrise photos. I don't think there's an amphitheater at this location.

This is where they filmed The Mummy. Smiley

My ankle is all puffy this morning and it hurts to go up and down the stairs. Tongue

My husband posted this on Facebook:
"But be sure of this, folks. When she fell and COULD have prevented injury by using BOTH hands, she used only one. Why? Because she had to ensure the camera didn't get damaged! Excuse me? In my book, self preservation outweighs the camera. Not for my wife, the artist/photographer! Sweetie, save yourself, NOT the camera for which we have insurance! See what happens when I'm not around?"

OUCH!
Yep, different time of day to really saturate those colors.

Ryan, are you thinking of Palo Dura canyon?

Check out the new blog. http://www.jklebphoto.wordpress.com

I'm such a sucker for those vivid colors.
I love the blue sky against the red rock on the last one.

Hope you feel better!

This is the one I was thinking of - http://www.redrocksonline.com/ Guessing it's a different one.

Ah, that's Colorado! Smiley There's also a Red Rock Canyon just outside of Las Vegas. No wonder there's confusion.

That amphitheater is really cool.
