Lyrid Meteor shower
« on: April 22, 2012, 05:19:04 PM »
I went out from about 8:30pm-10:15pm PST tonight and was able to capture a few of the Lyrid meteors. There was a HUGE fireball that we observed, low on the horizon, but (of course) it was out of my field of view with the camera. Some of the meteors were very dim and were not even seen with the human eye. Only after I brought them up on the computer was I able to see them.

f/3.5, ISO 500, 30sec, 11mm lens

This was the best one and space.com emailed me asking for permission to use it on their site. :)

Very cool! And the first shots in the slideshow too.

Hope you taped it.

Yup, I taped it. I also got an email today from another news organization asking if they can use them! Who would've thought that a such a small meteor shower would generate all this. :)

Thanks, Travis!! My brother-in-law took a photo of Good Morning America with his phone. I think it's funny that they chose one of the shots that I wouldn't have chosen, haha. This meteor was one of the more dim ones that I had to enhance a bit to even be able to see it:
