Before & After I - Cherish Every Moment
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:10:46 PM »
This is an old photograph. I found it in my large pile of over a thousand pictures that I had taken over the past year. I decided to do some serious editing to it, as you can see. I wanted to make the photograph appear like a dream.

Really don't like it. The clock doesn't fit with the kid at all. He looks like it'd be a better fit if he was holding a baseball bat, looking scared, standing over that clock broken worried about what Grandma was going to say.

There's also a lot going on to distract. Green leaves, the wrist band, a reflection on the clock face, and the bird.

Another thing, and this is specific to clocks. There's a standard of sorts on what time to set clocks and watches to in pictures so that they're balanced. I think it's 1:50 so that the hour hand is just about pointing at the 2 and the minute hand is pointing at the 10. There's a post on it from Ed S here I think. May have been on the old forum though.

It doesn't make me think dream. It makes me think B&W conversion.

Sidney, what kind of serious editing did you do to this?

I realize that it doesn't look very much like a dream. I wanted to use the "Diffuse Glow" option, but when I did it came out too bright. I should have blurred it a little more.

I turned it black and white about three times, adjusted the exposure at least twice, and tried to blur out the background enough. I had a lot on my mind due to personal events, so I wasn't really sure what else to do.
