"Add On" or "Upgrade"
« on: May 13, 2012, 09:45:26 AM »
Looking for a bit of input for another project I'm working on.

Which is a more friendly term, "Add-On" or "Upgrade"? Or maybe something else entirely?

What I'm doing is something similar to how WordPress.com works where you get a free site, but can pay for certain upgrades. To me, the word upgrade makes it seem like what you have is somehow incomplete.

Yeah, from what you're describing, it's not really an upgrade, more of a "Premium Module".

I'm the other way Ryan, although I know it's because of the way these terms have been used with products I've had in the past.  I used to use some software that got a new revision yearly, whatever they missed and didn't put in, became an 'Add-On'; therefore this term means incomplete to me.

Not sure if that's the case for everyone, but for me I'd rather have an upgrade than and add-on.

Marian has a point though... why not market it as a premium product of some sort.

If I can sneak back in here a little bit . . . how about "Option"?
