My first post

I am new to this forum,  I figured I should jump into the mix with a post right out of the gate.  This is a senior from this past spring.  It was processed in CS2.  I applied an image treatment that I call BC's Grunge.  It was a hit with the young lady.  C n C welcome.

First,  Welcome to PAF

My first thought was that it's an odd dress for a bridal session.  She doesn't look like she'd be a senior.  Not that she look old, just doesn't look like a teenager.  I think it's the expression.  Of course most teenagers don't want to look like teenagers so that's probably a good thing  Grin

The effect sorta looks like the diffused glow filter that comes with photoshop, maybe a touch different.
I want to like the image... it's good, I just have nothing to say about it.  That's not bad or good.  I am not a purist by any means, but I tend to shy away from obvious special effects.  Although people love them (especially that darn selective coloring that I keep having to do for brides).

Welcome to our forum though!  Post more images, we love images (or at least I do).

I'm not really a fan of the post processing, although I'm not really a fan of much post processing anyway.  The first thing I thought was that it was a bad scan.  It seems really light and looks dirty.  Of course, that may be the look you're going for.

I agree with Ryan thought at first it sure was grainy. I can see how it might look better printed. Probably really good on textured paper.

Welcome to our little group, we'll try to be nice.. [grin]

thanks for the comments Ryan and Susie.

Here is the original color version of the image with out my grunge effect.  I developed the grunge effect simply to give a different look to the image.  Seniors seem to want edgy and different looks at times....probably just to drive the parents nuts.  Grin

Ok, here are my thoughts for what they are worth:

I like the second image you posted much better, although if the post processing sells - do it.  I know what you mean about seniors wanting something edgy, it's true, although I think that you have to have that edge in mind while doing the shoot, I think certain poses and expressions lend themselves well to gritty post processing.
It seems your images are a little overexposed, maybe it's the post processing.  That second image has a strip of green on the side, it distracts me.  I might take the time to clone it out, even for a section that large I don't think it would take much time.
The last image has a strange background, did you try and soften it in post processing?  It doesn't look naturally compressed.

I don't mean to seem harsh, it's critism like this that I learn the most from.  Your posing seems natural and your model sure is pretty, pretty eyes especially.  I would like to see more of your work.

Susie,

I do not take your comments as being harsh.  I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Bryan,

I like the second one better than the first, and the third one better than the second.  The first was over-processed IMO, and the second one is nice.  I think I just don't like her outfit.  I love her eyes in it.  The third one is by far my favorite, but I would have liked to see more of the image, it should not have been cropped at her hand.  I would like to see her fingers and the rest of her upper body.  Also, the light is too far behind her, it would have been better to have turned her into the light some more, I think.

thanks for your comments Travis.  The first image is "over processed" by conventional standards.  I included a black and white version, the original color version and the grunge version on the proof cd.  She chose the grunge look as the majority of her wallets to give to her friends.  Clapping  I myself do like the original version the best, but...if it sells....  Besides, I had to do something with that clothing selection of hers!

I agree with your comment on the hand in the third one.  Cropping thru skin really bothers me also.  I did not pay attention to the small details like that during the shoot. Tongue
