Nature Rising

I haven't taken any "serious" landscape shots in so long I realized I had been neglecting my practice of them. I improved somewhat in portraiture but upon seeing that my camera's only lens was really designed for landscape photographs, I decided to give it a shot. And I came up with one really decent one... Probably my best to date so far but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

EDIT: I forgot to upload the photograph, and when I tried it won't let me even though it is the same size as the one in my "Corporis" post. I went to see if I can delete the post but apparently I'm not able to. So...

I will just link to it:

Sorry, I don't look at photos on Deviant Art. Tongue Just put it up as a new reply to this thread.

Here ya go. Converted it to JPEG and it fits the upload limits with room to spare. The original was a PNG which isn't all that good of a format for photos on the web.

Can you explain this comment to me? A lens is a lens. What would make it designed for landscape over portraits?

Really like the image. It almost doesn't look real. I could picture it as part of a movie with elves or something walking through.

Thank you, Ryan! =)

As for the question about the lens, I read in a book some lenses work better for landscapes and others work better for portraiture. The lens I have are like wide-angle lens, usually for landscapes more than portraiture. I guess I worded it wrong the first time, sorry for the misunderstanding. Well, I'm still learning about cameras and lenses.

Oh, okay, that makes sense.

I would guess what you're reading is the lenses in the 50-135mm range are generally "portrait" lenses. Basically you're looking for something that doesn't distort much.

It is nice to have something wide in a pinch though. I have a 12-24mm lens after getting stuck in an elevator with the groom and groomsmen on the way downstairs and not being able to get the shot I wanted with the 17-40mm I had borrowed. Still liked the shot at 17mm, but would have been even better wide. But then, I guess it wasn't really a portrait.

First wedding I took the 12-24 it saved me when a really big bridal party wanted to be shot together in a church not long enough to allow me back far enough. I then proceeded to leave the lens on the pew and forget to pick it back up. Fortunately it was still there hours later after the reception when I came back.

... and now back to the topic Cheesy Grin ...
