New Theme - Time for some testing

I'm confused on the learning curve comments.  What's so different?

I haven't been looking at all of the little details like boxes and fonts etc, that others are mentioning. They really don't matter to me. I simply couldn't figure the new layout out and did not spend the time to try and figure it out. The layout was confusing to me in the same way that when I moved to Photoshop from Corel Photo Paint several years ago, I could not find my way around PS and it took a considerable effort to get used to it - the thing is that I had to make the learning curve because that is the program I decided to use. Now that I am totally comfortable with PS, I am unable to function using Corel without dedicating a lot of time and effort. The looks and functionality are very similar between the 2 programs. I think that that is all it is with your new layout. It may seem the same to you because it is simply a new skin on the same functionality - but I was lost and did not want to put the effort into figuring out something new. As I mentioned - the change isn't a problem - - - just glad you have provided the option to work with the old from my perspective anyway.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to go back to the old one until whatever is blanking out the words in posts is fixed. In posts where there is just one message, there is no way to scroll up and down to get rid of it and the only way to see the message is to highlight the words. Hopefully you can figure out the cause soon and then I'll try it again. Smiley

Comments and Harsh Critiques gladly accepted. My photos are ok to edit.

Since it's a browser bug that I can't seem to get to work (or I guess not work would be more accurate) on my computer, can you explain a little more what's happening?

Is it just the message text that's not showing or is the entire block of the post missing including the avatar, username, post date, reply button, signature, etc?

When the text does show up after highlighting or scrolling does the rest of the page jump down as the text fills in or is the space for the text already taken up?

I'm going through this thread this weekend and trying to get all the issues resolved.  Hopefully by this afternoon I'll have an improved version up and ready.

I've put up an update that should take care of some of the problems and suggestions (boxes around alternating posts  Cheesy Grin ).  I should have most of the other suggestions implemented by this evening.

A favor to ask.  I need someone who is having the disappearing text problem to try the next style.  You'll need to press control-F5 to force the cache to refresh in case there is a CSS problem that was causing it.  If it's still happening, can I get someone to do a screen capture with the text hidden and again after the text appears?  Just press print screen to copy the screen to the clipboard and paste it into a graphics program.  I've got IE7 on all of my computers so I can't see what's happening in IE6.

Marian, when I highlight the message, it appears.

Ryan, thanks for adding boxes, the signatures also aren't sooo far down from the post now.

Susie - when you highlight the text does the rest of the page jump down or is there a gap where the text should be that's filled in when you highlight?

Well, the text doesn't seem to be missing now.  But before, the page didn't jump down, it just highlighted the missing text so I could read it.  I had to leave it highlighted until I was done reading it.

That actually helps a lot in knowing what the problem is, and I think it's been fixed.

I've also re-enabled the related topics section but am limiting what score is shown.  If you notice a particular thread that shows really unrelated topics please PM me the thread and I'll take a look and see if I need to adjust the score that's needed to show a thread.

The Jump To box should be showing up for everybody underneath the Reply, Notify, ... links.

The board list on the index page should be showing boards with new threads by bolding the title and sticking the New icon next to it.

The updates so far are looking good.  Thanks.

One more request though, can we have the page links at the top of the page as well?

You mean the "Pages 1 2 [3]"?  They should be directly under the page title as well.  Look under "New Theme..." on this page.

Thanks for all your efforts on this Ryan.

I can't figure this out to save my life.  I can do complicated layers in CS3, but I can't navigate the new site at all.
How can I go to just see the forums?
Sometimes I want to post, and sometimes I just want to look.  Maybe I want to look again at something posted a month ago, but can't figure out how to do it here.
I'm probably doing this all wrong, but if I can't get it, I wonder if new people can?

The only page that really has changed functionally is the home page.  The forums are listed along the right side instead of down the center.  If you click on one of the board titles on the right it's just like if you had from the old design.  The posts are listed in reverse order by most recent reply.
