New Theme - Time for some testing

Bob, which reply are you clicking?  The one with the icon at the top of each post or the on in the list of links on the bottom of the thread. Maybe there needs to be a Reply and a Quote icon.

The related topics are pulled out of the database by comparing the first post of threads.  You're right that right now they don't seem too related but that should improve as more gets posted.

I guess I need to work on a way to get boxes back and have it look right Cheesy Grin  It'll probably be this weekend before I can get to it though.

The reply was at the bottom, there are two, but on a page where there is only one post I don't see the bottom reply either (the one that doesn't quote), probably because I can't scroll to see all the text on the page when there is only one post, there is no scroll bar.  Maybe if I make my window smaller then I could scroll, but that's too much hassle.  I just delete the quote and start typing.

I guess I should just upgrade from IE6, how frustrating.  However there is nothing I can do about my work computer, I have to use their internet service provider.

I am sick of scrolling back and forth to see all the words.

I've noticed that sometimes the menu bar on the bottom says Quick Reply, Top of Page, Full Reply and sometimes there's about half a dozen things there which is actually the correct way it should be.  I know where the problem is coming from, just have to go in and fix it.

I'll work on the boxes either one evening this week or this weekend.  I've got an idea on how to make it look decent and still not be drastically different than the front page.  As a bonus I think that I may be able to clear up the peek a boo problem that y'all are having which obviously wasn't fixed by the fix that I tried.

Can we get the 'Jump to' links back?  Or just keep the links down the right side of the screen like on the home page?

I'll work on a Jump To this weekend.  That's one of those features that I never used so I didn't think to include it.

Ryan - thanks for giving the option of having the old standardized forum look as my Default. While the new look is fresh and appealing looking, I find it very difficult to use and am not interested in a new learning curve. I visit and post on so many forums each day, that I am familiar with the layouts and posting methods of the 3 or 4 forum softwares used, and can quickly read or post and move on to the next one. There are a few very good forums that I seldom visit - just because they do not follow a standard forum format (an example is photo.net). Up until this morning I thought that your forum would have to also be one that I would exclude - - - however, now that I realize that I can go back to the standard format, and have done so - I am comfortable again  Big Grin.  Don't get me wrong. I appreciate what you are trying to do by making the look different and more appealing to attract new members - - - - that is a good thing too. Keep up the good work.

It may bring them in, but if ALL OF US made an effort to reply to their new posts, they might stay.

I'm going to work on making it look a little more like a standard forum.  I think I went a little overboard, although I do like most of it.  Once everything settles down though I probably am going to drop the normal format, but I want to get as many people as possible happy with the new layout which hasn't happened yet.  But I'm pretty comfortable with the fact that not everybody will be happy with the new design.  Best I can do is get as much input as possible and act on that.

Love the new front page, but for the rest, I had to go back to the old style for the same reason as Robert. I post on too many forums to deal with the learning curve.

I'm confused on the learning curve comments.  What's so different?  The icons and links are in the same places.  It's just a different background.  It'll have the boxes that everybody seems to want when I get a chance, and I agree that that will make it easier to follow.

Okay, out of fairness, I reset it back to the new skin/theme and am giving it another try. Here are my thoughts thus far:

I really, really, really miss the quick reply box being at the bottom of the post without having to click "Quick Reply".

I think it would be better to switch the middle frame on the main page with the frame on the right. Frequent posters aren't going to care about the Recent Topics section. They are going to care about what is new since their last visit. Right now, there's no way to see that from the main page. I can either click on "View New Post" or I can click on each board individually to check.

Is there a way to eliminate the time and date from the Recent Topics list? It would make the list shorter and not show lulls in conversation.

I like the logo with the reflection. Very nice. Smiley

I also really like the Home Search Profile bar. Classy.

I think the "Related Topics" selection is spotty in its evaluation as to what is related. It linked to a wedding topic from my hummingbird picture.

I'm still getting missing text as was previously reported.

View exif, when selected, isn't showing exif data.

I don't like how the screen stretches when you click on "more" for additional smileys.

Not crazy about the huge bold subject being displayed above each reply.

I do miss the boxes, as they do help to define where each post begins and ends. As it is, people's signatures are just kind of hanging in the breeze. Wink

Enough feedback for now?  ROFL

Ooo...here's more. When I clicked on "Online Now" it shows what thread each person is viewing. I know from experience that users DO NOT LIKE THAT. It sets the stage for ill will. "I saw you were viewing my thread...why didn't you reply?"

Oopsy...when I clicked on "Full Reply" I got:

Thanks, I appreciate it.  I do need to defend, or at least ask questions about, a few though.

It should be there if you have it enabled in your control panel just to the right of the Reply link.  I added it last weekend.

Those were there from before I figured out how to add the New icons.  I think you're probably right that it's just wasted space now.

That's on my todo list for this weekend.  Part of what is returned from the database is a "score" and the posts are sorted on that score and sometimes it comes up with odd matches based on what words are in the post.  But it seems that not many posts have 5 posts that match very well so it's returning some junk (well, junk in the not matching sense, the posts are good).  I'm going to work on getting a minimum score and not showing those that are less than that.  My guess is it would be better to show no results than to show 5 that don't seem to match at all.

That should be fixed when I get the boxes working.

That happens on an image that doesn't have any EXIF.  For whatever reason the plugin that pulls the EXIF says that there is EXIF even if it's blank.  Also on the todo list is to check if the EXIF is blank before displaying that link.

It's always been that way.  I didn't change that page at all other than the colors.

That would be a bug.  The "Full Reply" is supposed to be after Quick Reply (if it's enabled) but doesn't seem to be working like it's supposed to.

Well, I know the 3 that I checked had exif data when I viewed them with the old theme and now it's not showing up with the new theme.
