New Theme - Time for some testing

Pages [1] 2 3 ... 5
I've got the new layout in a fairly finished state and it's time for y'all to help me test it out.  In general I'm very happy with the layout minus a couple of trivial issues.

To change...  Click on the Profile tab on the top of the screen.  On the left you'll then see a link titled "Look and Layout Preferences"  - click it.  Next to "Current Theme" will be a link to follow titled "Change".  Scroll down to paf-default and click "use this theme".

If you need to undo you just do the same thing but pick forum default instead of paf-default.

I like it.

Is the "new posts" link the same as the unread posts since last visit link?  It's probably the thing I use the most.

What if there are 20 new posts since I last logged on. How will I be able to see what's new?  Huh?

I don't have the quick reply box anymore.

I'm still playing, so I'm sure I'll have more questions, ha ha.

Yes, "View New Posts" is the same as unread since last visit.

I put the 15 threads with the most recent replies instead of the 15 most recent replies.  What was happening is that when one thread got a lot of replies it would take all the space up in the box on the bottom and push other threads out.  Maybe I need to bold the topics that have new posts since your last visit so that it's more obvious which are updated.

And I didn't know that the quick reply box was working on the old theme, so I didn't worry about getting it over here.  I do like the quick response box on other forums so I"ll see what I can do about setting it up here.

Found another issue typing this.  The previous thread contents aren't listed below when you're typing a reply.

Quick reply is up and running. I'm actually using it now.

I figured out a way to bold the board titles if there are new messages in that board and bold the topic title and add the little New icon if there are new messages in that topic.  Hopefully that'll make it easier to find the new stuff.

I like the bold, great feature.

A couple more trivial fixes.  The links that show a New icon next to the should now jump to the new item.  The border above (or below on the bottom of the page) of reply, start new topic, etc should now be showing in IE.  There was a little bug to workaround.

I actually think the font in the posts is a bit small.  I also liked when there was a box around each one.  I find myself sorta looking around for a split second to find each seperate post.

The other thing that bothers me is that the whole post isn't showing up unless I scroll up or down (so the message isn't on the screen) and then back and it will appear.  This happened on both my work computer and home computer.... so strange.

I don't mean to sound negative, the first thing is just an opinion.

I agree. I miss the boxes.

I'm having that happen, too.

I had to switch back to the old theme while at work, because I have to squint to see the font.

I'm planning on changing the font.  The font I'm using doesn't hold up to shrinking very well.

What browser and what version are y'all using that you're not seeing the message until scrolling?  That sounds like it may be an IE6 bug that I've seen before.

Probably IE6 then.  It's livable.

I'm using IE6, and not seeing the same problem.  Has it been fixed already?

Also, I really liked that each of the boards' icons would change with new posts since the last visit on the old forum style, can we add the bold lettering to any and all posts, and boards that are new since we've visited, not just on the home page?  Or am I missing something?

The forum names were bold when there were new topics, but that stopped for some reason.  I'll have to look into that.

Font has been changed to a web font rather than the one that I was using.  Y'all are right, it was a bad choice.  It should hold up to smaller sizes better, but let me know if the size is still a problem.  You can also make font sizes bigger in your browser under the View menu in IE and Firefox.

Forum topics should now be bold and have a little New icon next to them if there are new posts in that topic.  The thread title will take you to the first post.  Clicking the new icon will take you to the first new post since your last visit.

I'm still looking in to getting the board titles to bold on the home page and on the forum pages.  For some reason the variable that's supposed to tell the script that a board has new threads isn't getting set correctly and I've got to figure out why.

For those that are not seeing the post appear at first, let me know if it's working now (you may have to hit ctrl-f5 to force a reload of the CSS).  I put in a fix, but it's never done that on my machine so I can't tell if the fix worked.

There is no reply, if I hit reply I get quote.

The "related topics" section at the bottom of the page confuses me. It seems more "A handfull of random topics" than "related"

I miss the boxes too.
