New to boudoir

I am starting to branch out into different types of photography, including boudoir.  Here is my very first attempt at it.  I hope I'm not breaking any rules... as I couldn't find them.

Welcome! be sure to go to the "about me" thread and tell us about you.

First the rules, keep it PG. If the shot is PG but shows a lot of skin (bikini for example) put NSFW in the title (Not Safe for Work) so someone won't be embarrassed at work.  "Inappropriate" is a gray area, when in doubt email a link to the image to any of the moderators.

Your photo is too hot, blown out in places. I can see what you had in mind, you missed.
Post some of your best portraits in the portrait section (only a few can post here). Get opinions from the shooters here, and share some of your own. Hone your skills and then post here for tips on making a great photo outstanding.

Hi, I am so glad you posted a boudoir picture here. That is what I do.

Rules - Like Bob said, keep it PG or so, this picture is totally fine.

What Bob meant about not many people posting here is that there is a "pro critique" board kind of thing and we are the only ones that can post critique on this thread. I think it originally was meant to post your best work to get critique by working professionals, but I think posting in another section is helpful as well because you are then open to hearing from more people which is always a good thing.

Anyway, on to the critique:

I think you did a great job here. The image has a sexy and intimate feel. It doesn't appear posed or studio-ish, it's almost candid, like you caught her in a moment. I really like that and it's something I struggle with in my own work.
I love that it is not color, that lends itself to the intimate feeling, however I don't care for the sepia brown/greenish tone you choose. I would have prefered a straight black and white. I also don't care for the treatment that is done on the edges. I don't know if it's a filter or overlay or what, but I don't like it because it doesn't look good on her hair on the left side of the image. I think you were going for a vintage look but the image has a much more modern style to it for that to be pulled off well. I would keep the image clean from vignettes, turn it a true black and white. I think that would really help the image.

I do think the image is hot or slightly blown out, but I like that. It's part of the styling of the image and I wouldn't worry about that. Slight over exposure mixed with a good black and white conversion will really do wonders for how the skin appears in a photo, and boudoir shows a lot of skin.

Keep it up! I would love to see more of your boudoir work. It's a subject I am passionate about.

Thank you for your critiques.  I agree.  I did too much photoshop there.  But, I also did do the overexposure on purpose.  I think it makes the skin look nicer.  Here is another attempt... and this time I didn't do texture and "weird" colors.

I this is better.

Ginnypenny, I will post more boudoir in other sections so I can get advice from other members as well.

I love the lighting on that one! Very sexy.
I don't love the crop though. I would crop in tighter and lose the sides. The large amounts of darkness don't add anything to the image.
