Photography - Open Discussion

This is where we can post images, discuss lessons, and ask questions on the "Photography - What You Need To Know" thread.

I'm just wondering if anyone is interested in posting images from the current 'assignment' for the workshop this thread is attributed to.  If not, I will continue on with the lessons.  If some of you are working on the assignment (or have plans to) then I will wait until we can get some discussion on your images, otherwise I will move forward.

Let me know please, so that I am working along at a pace that is good for anyone that is interested in being part of this and participating.  For those of you that already know all the current information, you are certainly welcome to participate with any discussion, suggestions, additional information, or corrections as well.  All feedback is welcome and encouraged.

Thanks,
Travis

Travis, I was experimenting with shutter speeds today and am currently downloading 599 shots. When I get it done, I'll post what I did. Smiley

Marian, Thanks so much for posting these here.

First, they are both beautiful images that do a wonderful job of showing a technique with shutter speed to convey motion.  Great examples!  Personally, I prefer the second one over the first.  It's one of those things that I feel like you need to go all out on.  If you are going to use a long shutter speed, use a really long shutter speed (at least in this case).  In the first image, there is motion, but it is slight enough that you almost get the feeling it's just blurry.  In the second one, there is no question as to the intent of [you] the artist.  As for shutter speed technique, I commend you on a job well done.  There are certainly some bright spots in the exposure that you will need to try to keep under control somehow (possibly a good candidate for HDR).  The image also appears slightly soft to me, but could be from what looks like digital noise.  Is this image of your original exposure, or did you pull some detail out of the shadows from a slight under-exposure in post-processing?  There is also a bluish cast from the open shade that might be easily compensated for with a warming filter layer in Photoshop.

Again, great use of a long shutter speed to show motion, and a gorgeous scenic photograph!  Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks, Travis. All I did was crop these. I didn't adjust for exposure or do any sharpening. Just a quick and dirty crop. As we were driving along the road, I spotted this water wheel and said to my husband, "stop!! That's perfect for Travis' thread." It was taken purely to show motion, and nothing else, ha ha. (I was trespassing at the time, and didn't want to stay too long. Wink )

Here's a wide POV of the pretty little area. No polar filter used. No modifications other then a frame used in the first image, and resize for web. S.O.O.C.
