I probably should've used an even slower shutter speed for his hand with the hammer, to give it more motion.

Mike, great photos as always.  The first one does a wonderful job of showing motion; and it's amazing to me that you can hand-hold 1/15s at 70MM without the logs being blurry without the aid of flash.  Impressive.  The second one is a good balance of showing just enough motion in the water that it still appears sharp, but isn't quite.  Very interesting, I think I'm going to try this technique as well because I really like the effect.

Marian,  I think the shutter speed used with the swinging hammer is spot-on.  If you had gone very much slower, the hand and hammer would have turned into just a streak of color and it wouldn't do as good a job of telling the story.  This is a great photo, in my opinion.

I decided to use this moment of quiet to play with f stops and ISO's. Mostly the latter.

Probably took about 60 frames here. But heres two that I thought were ok enough to share.
He's on the couch about 4 feet from an uncovered glass door. About 12 feet wide. (Lots of light) Its been a typical spring/summer afternoon here, so clouds were moving through and the light changed every few seconds.
