Random Flowers

Just some stuff I have shot.  I know the middle one is over exposed.  And I have not yet done any photoshop work on any of these.

I haven't come up with a good identifier yet so I use the fish as my trademark, I know it is very distracting and in time I will replace it.

Welcome!  I read your bio thing in the introduction thread.  I use a D80 too.  Yay!  I have noticed some issues with it, mainly with contrasty situations, but it's a good camera.

The pictures took a while to load on the computer I am on right now.  I like the first and second the best.  They look a touch out of focus, but it's hard to tell since it could just be compression.  The colors are great.  I don't think you need any photoshopping on these, maybe some contrast in the midtones on the first one.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that there was a slight breeze the night I took them, that is why they look out of focus.

also is there a better way to link photo's than directly from photobucket that would speed up the load time?

Attach them straight off your hard drive

after you resize them please... [grin]

blurry is blurry. You have to play it or remove it, anything else looks like blurry...

I carry a contraption that is two clips with a string between them.
I clip one to something stable and the other to the plant or around the plant and back to something. slow the shutter down and make the one flower tack sharp and the rest a blur of color for the background.

Just one of many ideas..

What is an acceptable size?

Ooh, good point. I resize all my stuff to a max 600 pixels on the longest side at 72dpi and Save for Web in Photoshop. That keeps them below the size threshold for most web postings. It also it so you don't have to scroll your screen to see the whole photo.

I have a file on an external hard drive that is just for web ready images. I can go straight to it when I want to post something, and If there's a photo I'll want to post later it takes a few seconds to save a web copy to that file.

600 pixels on longest side, I agree.  On panoramic shots you can go up to 700.

Ooooo, now that one I really like! Smiley Very pretty!

Normally I really don't like selective color images.  They just seem too cliche.  But that one I really like.

And...

I like selective when it's the main focal point that is in color, like this.  When it's the bride's bouquet in a shot I end up looking at the flowers instead of the bride's face.  That bugs me.

Anyway, the size is good.

much better. still looks like you're having focus problems though.
this time it looks like Depth of Field more than anything else.

doesn't really matter much, good photo either way

You might try cropping it a bit to get rid of the out of focus leaves in the foreground and the bright toned leaf on the left side.

This one was a pic that had horrible light and other things in it that I was just playing PS to see what I could do with it.  I like to see if I can make lemonade if possible.

Bob let me see if I understand you right, are you saying that the focal point on the colored part is a little off?  And if so should be it be more on the Stamens of the flower?
